Dec. 13, LDRNY Executive Director Dr. John J. Scibilia Jr. joined
with representatives of the Board of Rabbis, The Archdiocese of
New York, the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens and the Greek Orthodox
church for the lighting of the seventh candle in the Hanukah menorah
at Ground Zero. The menorah and Christmas tree are at Ground Zero
at the Port Authority family center for those who lost family.
The seventh night was picked in particular to invite a diverse
group of people involved in the spiritual and emotional healing
of New York post-Sept. 11. On this night, the menorah casts off
much light, symbolically representing the rebuilding of spirit,
mind, and body that has already taken place within the New York
region during the past three years. There is still much work to
be done and much rehabilitation that needs to occur. The light
of the menorah and the tree give hope in the darkness.
