LDRNY partner receives grant

The Rev. Ann Tiemeyer, Koinonia NYC Director, receives Lutheran Crusader Fund check from Long Island

Lutheran Middle  & High School Headmaster Dr. David Han and the Rev. James Klockau, Grace  Luther Church, Melverne.

Koinonia NYC, the urban  ministries of Koinonia and LDRNY partner, was recognized recently by the  faculty, staff and students of  Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School with a  grant of $2,500 from  the Lutheran Crusader Fund. Provided by an anonymous  donor in 1998, a generous $1 million contribution enabled LuHi, located in  Brookville, Long  Island, to establish the Lutheran Crusader Fund.  The focus of the LCF is the creation and  enhancement of innovative programs that benefit Christian institutions and  support people and organizations in times of significant crisis or need.  To date, $528,000 has been awarded to  209 deserving organizations through the LCF.

Koinonia NYC received the  LCF grant to support their innovative Faith Walks at Ground Zero  ministry.  Through this ministry visiting groups from across the country and from local congregations, come to the LDRNY Comfort and Renew Center  located on the 20th floor over looking Ground Zero for a guided visit.  The groups are lead in  reflection, discussion and prayer by the trained Faith Walk Leaders who share  stories of how the faith community responded to the events of 9/11.  In the face of destruction and death, we  do have a story of God's promised new life to share.  As a faith leader Koinonia is sharing this message of hope with the support of the LCF grant and a LDRNY grant.  To learn more about Faith Walks at Ground Zero, visit Koinonia's website or  call 212-669-6130 for a brochure.
