Florida LCMS pastors embrace Dennis, remember Ivan
“We began to gear up for Hurricane Dennis on Friday before it landed on Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m.,” according to the Rev. Warren Davis of Jehovah Lutheran Church in Pensacola, by connecting to the preparations being made by Southern District President Kurtis Schultz's office.
President Schultz said that for the immediate short-term, the District had some resources in hand due to “the generosity of LCMS World Relief and Human Care” after Hurricane Ivan. A mobile trailer, equipped with chain saws and other tools needed for cleanup after hurricanes, has been ordered. Speaking to us on Monday, Gary Faith, Executive Assistant for Parish Ministries for the Southern District, said that several executives have four-wheel-drive vehicles which could pull the trailer onto the site of a devastated area.
“On Sunday evening after Hurricane Dennis landed, we continued to make connections with pastors in the Pensacola area.”

Lutheran Disaster Response on the scene
July 10, 2005
The streets of the south coast resembled a ghost town. Millions took the strength of Hurricane Dennis seriously and evacuated west and north of the Florida panhandle and gulf shore region of Alabama. Less than 10 months after Hurricane Ivan decimated this area, residents are bracing for the impact of Dennis.
Hurricane Dennis produced tremendous amounts of rainfall causing major flooding in many areas of this region. Lutheran Disaster Response is deploying it's coordinators to assist in the initial damage assessments that will be required to coordinate the resources and volunteers needed to serve in each of the impacted areas. Immediately, volunteers with skill in chain saw use (to help with debris removal) and roof experience (to assist in tarping roofs and making roof repairs) is a high priority. Please call 1-800-638-3522, ext 2719, if you have these skills. Donations are also a priority to help purchase the supplies that these communities will need to help rebuild their lives and homes and to provide the emotional and spiritual care to those affected by this major storm.
