Koinonia NYC gives congregations get a helping hand

Nineteen confirmation students and three adults from Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, came to New York City in late October to work with several Synod churches on servant projects. The servant program was sponsored by Koinonia NYC, a ministry in partnership with Lutheran congregations and schools in New York City, which welcomes visitors to New York. Directed by the Rev. Ann Tiemeyer, Koinonia NYC opened a New York City office earlier this year at Our Savior’s Atonement, Manhattan. The servant group assisted in preparing a hot meal at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Bronx, distributed food pantry groceries in the Bronx and cleaned the sanctuary at Transfiguration Lutheran Church, Bronx. The group also painted Fordham Lutheran Church, Bronx. The group also visited Ground Zero and the offices of Lutheran Disaster Response of New York, which supports Koinonia NYC.
