A group of 8 Lutheran pastors from Norway, who serve as chaplains on oil rigs in the North Sea, came to New York in late October to see firsthand LDRNY's work after 9/11. Pastor Tom Taylor, deputy coordinator of LDRNY/Long Island, hosted the group, speaking to them at LDRNY's headquarters overlooking Ground Zero and showing them around the redevelopment site. These pastors are called on frequently to respond to disaster, as explosions and fires often occur on the rigs. Because many of the workers are away from their families for long periods of time, the pastors also do a lot of counseling on family issues. More than 95 percent of the population of Norway is Lutheran.
