Over the winter, Koinonia NYC Servant Events and other activities helped to collect coats for those in need in New York City. For example, the members of Christ Lutheran Church, in Lewisburg, Penn., collected 19 large garbage bags of coats that were then delivered to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan. Every month, St. Luke’s distributes clothing to those in need, and was especially grateful for this donation, which really helped replenish its shelves. The members of Christ Lutheran Church had learned of St. Luke’s clothing ministry while participating in a recent servant event hosted by Koinonia NYC. Lori Slaugenhaupt, Christ’s Youth Ministry Coordinator, told Pr. Ann Tiemeyer, Koinonia NYC Director, that the confirmation students haven’t stopped talking about their servant trip. The opportunity to meet Lutherans living and working in New York City was a positive adventure that opened the eyes of every participant.
