Dear Friends of Lutheran Disaster Response of New York:
Here’s the March 17th edition of “Comfort & Renew Online,” a weekly e-newsletter provided by LDRNY.  If you have something to share, please drop an email to mikki@LDRNY.org.

Japan marks 10th anniversary of sarin gas attacks
March 20 will mark the 10th anniversary of a Japanese terrorist incident that killed 12 people and injured nearly 6,000. Victims of the Tokyo sarin gas attack are still struggling to move on. All those affected by the September 11, 2001, attacks have a different understanding and empathy for that struggle today. Representatives of the September 11th Families Association are in Tokyo this week to show their solidarity. The Comfort and Renew Center was host to a Tokyo victim's widow a few months ago. Mikki Baloy, LDRNY Coordinator, shares more information and reflects on recovery for victims of violent crime. Go to www.LDRNY.org and click on Top News.

Be prepared in your head, your hands and your home
Being prepared for any emergency, disaster or trauma means having the right tools and information in your head, your hand and your home. That’s the advice of Lutheran Disaster Response of New York’s Dr. John J. Scibilia, who is promoting emergency preparedness and readiness for churches, schools and families in the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. To schedule Scibilia’s one-hour presentation for your school, church or workplace, contact him at john@LDRNY.org, 866-864-1600. To read the full story, http://www.ldrny.org/News/News3.asp

LDRNY & LSA school survey reported in The Lutheran
Late last year, LDRNY released results of a school survey that it completed with Lutheran Schools Association. The survey said that more than 160 teachers in Lutheran schools had left their profession or New York City as a result of compassion fatigue from 9/11. The report was covered in The Lutheran, the national magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. To read the article, go to www.LDRNY.org and click on Top News.
