Note date change for LDRNY workshop on trauma/stress
Lutheran Disaster Response of New York will sponsor two workshops on Comprehensive Acute Traumatic Stress Management, Dec. 9 and Dec. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Long Island. Workshops will be given by Dr. Ray Shelton for the CERT CARE Team and the Medical Reserve Corp.

LDRNY partner travels to New Orleans to film documentary about trauma
Dr. David Grand, clinical director of Faithful Response, an LDRNY partner program, traveled to New Orleans this week to continue filming for his documentary, "After the Flags Go Away."? The film is about trauma and grief long after events such as 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, bombings and accidents. Faithful Response director speaks at conference
Michael Acari, Program Director for Faithful Response, an LDRNY partner, participated in a panel discussion sponsored by the Cambridge Health Alliance Victims of Violence First Responder Wellness Program, Dec. 7 in Arlington, Mass. The panel discussed the importance of self-care strategies to prepare you before, during and after a disaster.

Does your church want to learn about preparedness?
Pr. Tom Taylor, Deputy Coordinator of LDRNY for Long Island, and Michael Arcari, Program Director for Faithful Response, an LDRNY partner, will talk about disaster/emergency preparedness at Holy Trinity, Astoria, on Dec. 10. Special service for those who died on Sept. 11
St. Paul's Chapel and Voices of September 11 host an interfaith service in memory of those who died on Sept. 11, on Dec. 17, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., St. Paul's Chapel, 209 Broadway. The service features the Harlem Gospel Choir. Following the service, sculptor Mark Pilato will unveil his sculpture "Ascent" in the church courtyard. RSVP to 866-505-3911, www.voicesofsept11.org.

Career seminar offered
The Resiliency Program and Family Service League sponsors a Career Breakthroughs seminar on Dec 13 from 6-9 p.m. at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Ft. Washington Ave and 168th Street.  Gene Gitelson will be the featured coach, and dinner will be served. This program, made possible by a September 11 Grant from the American Red Cross, is for those who are un- or under-employed in the wake of 9/11, and will help participants find career focus and market their skills. Servant event opportunities in NYC
Is your congregation looking for a Servant Event opportunity for Summer 2006? Koinonia NYC organizes servant events that include service projects, faith-based conversations, worship disciplines, Bible study, New York City experiences and a "Faith Walk" at Ground Zero. The full-week schedule combines service time in the urban environment of New York City with a closing weekend retreat at Koinonia's wilderness setting in cabin housing. Koinonia NYC will work with your group to create an event that will suit your group's interest and needs. Koinonia NYC is a ministry of Koinonia and works in partnership with Lutheran Social Services Lutheran Disaster Response of New York), and New York City Lutheran congregations to coordinate a meaningful broad-based experience. Housing options are available throughout Manhattan and the greater New York area, depending on group needs. Servant events can also be arranged with Koinonia NYC throughout the year as a week-long event, an extended weekend, or a weekend. Want to be a docent for Ground Zero tours?

Take a planned Faith Walk around Ground Zero

LDRNY partner Koinonia NYC invites you to take a Faith Walk around Ground Zero. Faith Walks are inspirational and educational tours of Ground Zero and surrounding landmarks, encouraging healing and hope in the face of despair. If you’re planning a trip to New York City, or want to read more about others’ experiences, go to www.LDRNY.org. Participants always report back that they liked the Faith Walk.
