All the saints are together in our response to suffering
Dr. John J. Scibilia, LDRNY Executive Director, celebrated All Saints Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church in North Bellmore. Grace Lutheran is the home of Faithful Response, an LDRNY 9/11 mental health program funded by the American Red Cross. In his All Saints message, Dr. Scibilia said, "We are called to church to be in fellowship with the Lord and with each other. God brings us here to sing praises to God together, to gather around and hear God's word together, to pray together, to commune at the Lord's table together, and to go out together to serve the Lord and the people God loves out there, together." LDRNY needs holiday volunteers
Barnes and Noble on Astor Place will host LDRNY Dec. 2-4, as we wrap gifts to raise funds for our annual holiday drive. All cash donations made at the store will provide gift certificates for families economically affected by 9/11. If you'd like to volunteer for a gift-wrapping shift, send an email to mikki@ldrny.org or call the office at 212-406-9736. You can also stop in to shop on those days and have your purchase wrapped.

Case managers available for hurricane victims
Not-for-profit social services agencies have case managers to help evacuees find out what services and benefits may be available and how to access them. Please keep in mind that this Helpline does not serve as a generaliInformation and referral line for Katrina-related questions, but is the central point for assigning evacuees to case managers who are available to work one-on-one to develop a plan for your future. To request a case manager from one of these agencies, call 1-888-744-7900 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. For more on this and other important programs, go to www.LDRNY.org
Protect yourself after a disaster-- always ask for ID
FEMA is advising victims of hurricanes or other disasters to check for identification when approached by post-disaster officials. Most officials should have some form of picture ID. Insurance adjusters should be able to provide identification upon request. Inspectors and adjusters will call to arrange an appointment before visiting a disaster victim or their property. An applicant for disaster relief should verify ID with any caller claiming to be with FEMA, the SBA or another agency by asking for his or her application number or other previously given information.
Temporary housing for disaster victims offered
Thousands of families are in immediate need of housing because of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Homes For Katrina is helping to facilitate the connection between those displaced by Hurricane Katrina in need of safe temporary housing and those offering housing in a way that ensures the safety and privacy of both parties and the involvement of a reputable relief organization. For more information, check out the website at www.homesforkatrina.org
