Assistance for Gulf Coast families relocated to New York
There are about 1,000 known families from the Gulf Coast who have been relocated to the New York area.  If you know of someone who needs assistance, the NYC Office of Emergency Management has established a Disaster Assistance Service Center at City College of New York's Great Hall, at Convent Avenue & 138th Street in upper Manhattan. Center hours are Monday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers needed to help relocated hurricane families adjust
New York Cares needs volunteers to help provide assistance to Hurricane Katrina evacuees relocated to New York City. Positions include intake specialists, greeters, runners, technical support and community buddies. Training will be provided for all volunteers. New York Cares needs more than 100 volunteers per week to assist with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. As further needs arise for recovery volunteers, the Office of Emergency Management will forward these requests to New York Cares. Contact nycares@nycares.org, or 212-228-5000.

Free, fast ways to act
The need for human and cash resources is daunting in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and in the midst of the devastation left behind.  In our stewardship we are called upon to give our time and talents in response to God's grace. Disaster News Network released some ideas you might find helpful in your personal response.  Go to www.LDRNY.org and click on the Katrina link for these and other ideas on how to help.
