LDRNY provides prayers for 9/11 services

Red Cross posts 9/11 commemoration calendar
The American Red Cross September 11 Recovery Program (SRP) has published its 2005 September 11 Anniversary Events Calendar. LDRNY partner on the air
This Sunday, September 11th, Pastor Ann Tiemeyer of Koinonia NYC will be interviewed on "Grace Matters," the radio ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is about New Ground Day Camp and Faith Walks. It is 1/2 hour in length. It will not be aired on a New York City Station -- but it can be web cast from their site from Sunday. 9/11 anniversary reactions vary
The anniversary of September 11 may cause a variety of reactions in many people. Some may want to avoid thinking about their memories of the day, while some may want to commemorate it with special services or by volunteering or giving blood (For a list of events in your area, visit www.LDRNY.org and click on Top News). Some people may re-experience trauma associated with 9/11, or may seem jumpy or irritable. LDRNY reminds everyone to respect the reactions of those around them and to consider spiritual or other therapeutic guidance if it seems appropriate. The LCMS Responds to Hurricane Katrina
Dr. David Benke, President of the Atlantic District LCMS and of LDRNY, has written a letter concerning Hurricane Katrina victims and the District’s intent to aid those people and the congregations in the Southern District. Read it by going to www.LDRNY.org and clicking on the Katrina logo.
LDR director reports on Hurricane Katrina efforts
"In the fourth week of September, Lutherans and Episcopalians together will work to provide food" for people in the Astrodome. "It will take $1 million to feed people for one week," said LDR director Heather L. Feltman. "We are committed to seeing that this happens. Volunteers from the Lutheran church and the Episcopal Church will be needed," she said. "Lutheran Disaster Response is waiting for permission to enter disaster areas, but it is working with local partners to provide immediate" assistance to people "displaced from their homes, communities and work," she said. Lutheran Disaster Response is also "ready to deploy emotional and spiritual care for people in affected areas, once we receive word that it is safe to do so," she said. Faith Walks are inspirational and educational tours of Ground Zero and surrounding landmarks, encouraging healing and hope in the face of despair.
