Young people from NYC work on volunteer projects in Oklahoma
This week, a group of Lutheran young people from the Metropolitan New York Synod traveled to the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod to work on a Servant Event. Early in July, the youth from Oklahoma were in New York to work on volunteer projects in a Servant Event coordinated by LDRNY partner, KoinoniaNYC. Although the organization has arranged almost 20 Servant Events in the past 18 months, this one is special since the two Synods share common experiences -- the tragedy of 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing. LDRNY and its partners are praised
LDRNY and its partners get many notes of thanks for the work they do. We share this recent note to Pr. Ann Tiemeyer, director of KoinoniaNYC, about a recent Faith Walk:
Thank you so much for setting up a spiritually meaningful walk for the St. David's, Massepequa Park, group on July 30. Lisa Bellan-Boyar was truly great! She is a wonderful story-teller and gave us much to think about. My daughter was particularly impressed with the walk and the history lessons. She, too, as I, had been afraid to go down there and had put it off for a long time. We both found it easy to share our stories with others in an atmosphere that truly provides Comfort and Renewal.

Get going with your Go Bag
All disaster and emergency experts recommend that the best way to be prepared for a natural disaster is to be prepared! A Go Bag helps you do that, especially during this year's hurricane season. You can make your own bag, or if you don't want to, LDRNY has done the work for you. LDRNY's Go Bag is the most comprehensive disaster-preparedness bag on the market today. The red standard backpack is filled with more than 50 items to help a person survive in the first 24 hours following a disaster or emergency. Items include a flashlight, water, energy bar, whistle, rain poncho, mylar blanket, hand-warmer packet, radio and compass, first-aid kit, toothbrush, hand-sanitizers, ID holder, DNA/fingerprint kit, pen and pad, and much more.
