Bishop Bouman lauds work of LDRNY
Bishop Bouman spoke about the work of LDRNY at the annual Assembly of the Metropolitan New York Synod recently. He reminded people that LDRNY is one of the last faith groups to continue to help those affected by Sept. 11. He asks for your prayers and reminds you of the wonderful work it continues to do. To read the full story and see photos, go to www.LDRNY.org.

We remember the burning of the General Slocum
June 15 marks the anniversary of the General Slocum disaster. On this date in 1904, more than 100 people, mostly Lutheran mothers and children, were killed when the excursion steamer General Slocum burned in the East River in New York City. Prior to Sept. 11, this was one of the worst disasters to affect New York. A memorial plaque was placed in 2004  at the site of St. Mark's Church, 323 East 6th Street (now Community Synagogue).

ELCA representative will write about visit to the Gulf Coast
Andrew Genszler, director for domestic policy of the ELCA Washington Office, will  travel along the Gulf Coast on a fact-finding mission June 14 to 22. He'll interview displaced people, ELCA congregation leaders and people from partner agencies and institutions, asking what they've learned since the disaster, what they've done to help the rebuilding process, and what Lutherans outside the Gulf Coast and policy makers in Washington can do beyond donating money. His blog, titled, "Rebuild to Renewal: The Gulf Coast Through an Advocate's Eyes,"? will be posted at  www.elca.org/advocacy between June 14 and 22.

Spend time this summer in NYC on a servant event

Take a planned Faith Walk around Ground Zero

LDRNY partner Koinonia NYC invites you to take a Faith Walk around Ground Zero. Faith Walks are inspirational and educational tours of Ground Zero and surrounding landmarks, encouraging healing and hope in the face of despair. If you’re planning a trip to New York City, or want to read more about others’ experiences, go to www.LDRNY.org. Participants always report back that they liked the Faith Walk. Here is a comment from one person: "It was informative, very moving, and certainly uplifting. In your very kind and thoughtful manner, you put us all at ease. Your friendly way made us all able to participate and enjoy this opportunity."
