Art show of patron saints runs through April 17
There's still time to visit the art show at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Manhattan (ELCA), to see the sculptures of patron saints most affected by 9/11. The church, at 619 Lexington Ave. at 54th Street, is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The show, which runs through April 17, was recently covered in the Financial Times. The article by Clare Henry said, "With so much controversy over the official memorial at Ground Zero, it is encouraging to see one independent memorial already commissioned and achieved, with no fuss and a good result." To read more, go to  www.LDRNY.org.

Read the uplifting story of Martha
A Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Atlantic District pastor recently shared the story of Martha, a woman from Ghana who was affected by 9/11. To read about her recovery and how pastors and LDRNY work together for long-term healing, go to www.LDRNY.org and click on Top News.

LDRNY promotes preparedness for emergencies, weather events
Being prepared for any emergency, disaster or trauma means having the right tools and information in your head, your hand and your home. That's the advice of Lutheran Disaster Response of New York's Dr. John J. Scibilia, who is promoting emergency preparedness and readiness for churches, schools and families in the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Already, several organizations have already scheduled him, including the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. To schedule Scibilia's one-hour presentation for your school, church or workplace, contact him at, 866-864-1600 or john@LDRNY.org

Community of Hope offers programs to manage anxiety and fear
The Community of Hope, an LDRNY partner and Comfort & Renew Center officemate, has two programs that may be of interest. It is sponsoring Dr. Peter Steinke to lead a seminar entitled Tending Self and Community During a Time of Anxiety, May 5, Advent Lutheran Church in upper Manhattan. It also offers a program entitled "Got Fear?" This 45-minute interactive program helps people begin to recognize and/or acknowledge some of their own anxiety. "It is not that difficult for people to become less affected by, and more resilient to, anxiety as long as they recognize it is a problem," said Pr. Rip Hoffman of the Community of Hope. 'Unfortunately, many business leaders I've talked with do not see this as a problem for themselves and, therefore, assume the same is true for all of their staff." The program is funded by the Red Cross and Church World Service grants. For more information, contact Pr. Hoffman at kantonen@aol.com
