NYDIS gets American Red Cross grant
The American Red Cross has awarded $1.7 million from its Liberty Disaster Relief Fund to NYDIS to support 9/11 victims and injured recovery workers through its NYC 9/11 Unmet Needs Roundtable. LDRNY is a founding member of NYDIS and was instrumental in creating the 9/11 Unmet Needs Roundtable. The grant spans 18 months and includes cash assistance, staff and training support. "More than four years after 9/11, we're seeing a significant rise in the unmet needs of injured rescue and recovery workers now seeking treatment for debilitating physical and mental health problems that now make earning a living difficult. A large number of these workers lack appropriate insurance or are undocumented immigrants who can't access benefits for a variety of complex reasons," said NYDIS' Peter Gudaitis.
Does your church want to learn about preparedness?
Michael Arcari, program director for Faithful Response, an LDRNY partner, is available to discuss disaster preparedness at churches, schools or organizations. He can discuss how to be prepared, along with showing what goes into a Go Bag, or a topic of special interest to you. To schedule a talk at your church, call Arcari at 516-679-0080, or faithfulresponse@ldrny.org .
