CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE WAYS TO PREVENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FOLLOWING SEPT. 11
ST. ALBANS, QUEENS, N.Y. – Oct. 1 – Domestic Violence after Sept. 11 will be discussed by the Domestic Violence Task Force of Southeast Queens at a special conference for clergy, Oct. 24, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Presbyterian Church of St. Albans, 190-04 119th Ave., Queens.
“It is widely reported that following a trauma such as Sept. 11, aberrant behaviors such as increased abuse of chemicals and violent acting out can occur,” said the Rev. Brenda Smith, pastor of New Hope Lutheran Church in Jamaica, who is one of the conference coordinators. Pr. Smith is on the board of directors of the Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY), which is funding the conference.
The Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church in Manhattan, is the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Judge William Erlbaum, acting justice, New York Supreme Court, Criminal Branch, Queens County; and Dr. John J. Scibilia, coordinator of LDRNY.
