FAITH-BASED NEW GROUND DAY CAMP BEGINS SECOND YEAR
30 sites in New York City, Long Island, Westchester & New Jersey

NEW YORK, NY – June 17 – More than 30 churches throughout New York City, Westchester, New Jersey and Long Island will host summer camps, July 7 - Aug. 22, to help children deal with their fear and frustration of terrorism, war and the frightful world we now live in.

Camp New Ground, a faith-based program, was launched in the summer of 2002 to help children overcome the anxiety, fear, trauma and grief, that they may have experienced since Sept. 11. The camps, open to all children, promise to put campers on “new ground.” This year, the camp curriculum will focus on Spiritlife, helping children recover and discover who they are with the love of God.

Funded by Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY), a joint ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to aid those affected by Sept. 11, the camps are being operated by Koinonia, a well-established camp ministry run by the Lutheran Church. Camp is directed by Pastor Ann Tiemeyer, director of Koinonia NYC.

Staffed by trained counselors and mental health experts, New Ground day camps will provide children with outlets and resources for expressing their feelings, along with fun activities and play associated with the summer camp experience in a faith-based setting.
