LDRNY MAKES GRANTS AVAILABLE TO CHURCHES & MINISTRIES
NEW YORK, NY – Feb. 20, 2002 – The Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY) announces a grant program to support grassroots ministries in the Metropolitan New York area that establish programs to provide comfort and renewal to people affected by Sept. 11 and its wave effects.
Grants of up to $15,000 may be applied for to establish and operate or expand existing programs that will support those affected to Sept. 11. Most funding for the grants has been provided by Aid Association to Lutherans/Lutheran Brotherhood.
"LDRNY will consider funding programs that make a difference in the lives of people and the neighborhood. With our larger programs established for long-term recovery, it's essential that our congregations and local ministries reach out in new and different ways," said John J. Scibilia, LDRNY coordinator.
Eligible applicants include:
• Atlantic District-LCMS and Metropolitan New York Synod-ELCA congregations.
• Local interfaith partnerships to which an eligible congregation belongs.
• Congregational ministries/organizations which are an integral part of its ministry. (e.g. LWML, WELCA, school, early childhood center, youth group.)
• Conferences and Circuits of the Atlantic District and Metropolitan New York Synod
• Agencies and organizations which are affiliated and/or recognized by the LCMS and ELCA as defined by those church bodies.
To apply for a grant, an organization must complete a proposal, to include the particular needs being addressed and what population is served as a result of or related to the events of Sept. 11.
"The proposal must include the need, how an organization proposes to address this need, a program description, number of families or individuals to be served, proposed dates of program or activity, proposed objectives for the services and/or activities and a budget for the project," said Scibilia.
Request for grants will be considered monthly by Atlantic District President David Benke and Metropolitan New York ELCA Bishop Stephen Bouman, and others that they might appoint.
Proposals should be sent directly to the appropriate church office, to either Kathy Jagow, Atlantic District, or Tony Aguilar or Connie Duever, Metropolitan New York Synod.
Not eligible for funding are individual cash assistance which is being covered by Project LIFE, any portion of salaries of current employees/staff job descriptions, building/office use fees which are currently covered by the congregation/organization budget, and equipment totaling more than 10 percent of the proposal budget unless there is strong justification due to the nature of the proposal. |
