WHO: New York City food pantries and soup kitchens are running low on food – as New Yorkers' needs for meals have increased following Sept. 11. Lutheran Disaster Response of New York, which provides assistance to all those affected by the Sept. 11 attack, Lutheran Social Services, and the Orphan Grain Train helps restock food.
WHAT: Delivery of $30,000 – one semi-trailer filled with food – was delivered to a Lutheran church in the South Bronx today (Jan. 28), to help restock soup kitchens and food pantries in the five boroughs that have been hard hit since Sept. 11.
WHERE: Food delivered to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 427 E. 140th St., Bronx, N.Y. Food came from Nebraska, delivered through the Orphan Grain Train, a Lutheran relief effort that provides food, clothing and other items to those in need.
WHEN: Delivered Jan. 28, 2002
WHY: Since Sept. 11, many of New York's soup kitchens and food pantries have seen an increase in customers, and a decrease in donations. As a result, food supplies were running extremely low.
