LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE OF NEW YORK (LDRNY) SPONSORS NOVA CRISIS TRAINING AFTER SEPT. 11
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Jan. 11, 2002 – Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY), in cooperation with NYC-CAN, is sponsoring a training program for first responders in situations of trauma, disaster, crisis and grief, Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3 West 65th St.
Training is provided by the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), and available to clergy, licensed therapists, doctors, nurses, educators and other emergency service personnel. The training will provide participants with basic certification in crisis response and debriefing.
LDRNY is underwriting the cost of the five-day course. LDRNY is a joint project between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) to assist, comfort and renew all those affected by the Sept. 11 attacks.
The course will cover the trauma experience, dimensions of emotion, crisis intervention, death and loss, long-term stress reactions, post-trauma counseling, spiritual dimensions in crisis, the community crisis response team and much more. Continuing Education Unit credits may for available for physicians, psychologists and social workers.
